Card

I've been subbing with the same team for a while now. I spent the first school week of this year, two weeks at the end of February, and last Thursday and Friday subbing for three different teachers in a four teacher team. I can't describe how great it is to spend so much time with the same students as well as the other teachers on the team. Friday was my birthday, which I mentioned to one of the teachers when I came in.

Soon, all of the students knew. They were poking their heads in my door, wishing me happy birthday. My first class requested an entire class restroom break but a few didn't want to go. I opened the connecting door to ask my neighbor to keep an ear out for the students saying behind which turned into a dual classroom concert of Happy Birthday. After first period I received this from the neighboring classroom.

If you look on the bottom right you will see a little drawing of me, bangs and glasses included, from one of the students. All of the students signed the card. Very sweet!

Here is the back of the card. The teacher from that cass is Ms. Love.

Tulips

My last post was a little depressing, so here is an upbeat one.

When I completed my high school student teaching, one of the gifts the students from the gifted class gave me were yellow potted tulips. I loved this gift for multiple reasons: tulips are one of my favorite flowers, and potted plants are so much better than cut flowers because you can plant them in the yard and keep them. I transplanted them into an empty planter and hoped for the best. I wasn't sure where they were purchased, but I know that many potted plants designed as gifts aren't always sutable for transplanting - designed to look really great at the time of purchase, yet not always the heartiest of plants. When the flowers, leaves, and stems immediatley wilted I thought my tulips had died. I wasn't sure if the bulbs were still good though, so I left them in the planter on my back patio.

I had really forgotten about them (because I thought they were dead), until I was outside today:

I am really very happy that they are growing back! I love having this reminder of my excellent student teaching experience.

My mom gave me this Christmas ornament today:

She was excited to give me my first teacher related gift.
Thanks Mom!
