I must admit that I assumed that the webinar would be a little more about where the jobs are as well as what employers are looking for in job candidates. This is the description:
"Will I have a job?" While no one can look into a crystal ball to answer that question, join us as Dr. Jerry Eads from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission helps us get a sense of where lies the best potential for future teaching positions. Tune into this live webinar on February 12th to hear one of the state's leading experts in teacher supply and demand unpack the latest data. The webinar really did focus on supply and demand as well as trends. I got a good sense of how many teachers the Georgia schools systems may be hiring as well as a general sense of what type of teachers (elementary, special education, Social Studies).
I was expecting something a little more specific to answer that question, "Will I have a job?". To give me a feel of which systems will be hiring which subjects and when they will start posting these jobs (not too specifically, just generalities). However, I think that the webinar did what it was supposed to do, and that it was my expectations which were off course.
One interesting tidbit which I appreciated was that good job growth is expected in the corridor between Athens and Gainesville. Although some parts of that area might be a little far to drive, it does give me hope that systems near me will be hiring a good amount of teachers.
Reading back over this, I see that I did get a general feel of job outlook from the webinar. Although I was hoping for a little more from the experience (maybe I am just grumpy from lack of sleep), I did in fact gain knowledge of Georgia teacher job outlook.
