Teaching

Today, I was The Teacher. I was in charge, and it went pretty well.

I was given the usual lesson plan and handouts/PowerPoint that is usually used for the lesson and I got to revise it however I wanted to. Today was an overview of the different types of governments, to prepare the student to learn about the governments of the countries of the Middle East.

The first class had the best student responses, and they really seemed to be in to it. They kept up pretty good discussions and most of the students paid attention the entire time. However, we didn't even come close to finishing.

The second class wasn't as responsive, and after we came back from lunch I could tell I had lost them. They were bored and didn't care. I tried to engage them, but it only partially worked. They didn't quite finish.

The thrid class was perhaps the least responsive, but we moved quickly and finished everything. I think they were bored, but mostly paid attention.

So what I thought was a one day lesson is going to be a two day lesson, and I am going to add an activity to fill out the second day. I am teaching again tomorrow.
